The "Maps, Animals, Mountains" show was hung in Stehekin's Golden West Gallery last winter. We had an opening for the Stehekin community with punch, cake and cookies on January 21st. It was a "dark and stormy night" making for difficult winter travel but a small, enthusiastic group showed up. The pictures below are from the opening. The show came down on March 28th.

Stehekin may be the most isolated community in the lower 48 United States. Travel to Stehekin is by foot on various trails (the Pacific Crest trail connects us to both Mexico and Canada) or by boat on a long fiord-like lake. The closest groceries and doctor are 50 miles away at the lake's other end. We do have a post office!
YOUR ARTWORK will be in the Golden West Gallery. It fills with natural light every day. Your mail art will not be juried.
THEMES We hope to paper the gallery walls with hundreds of your entries. We offer THREE THEMES so you can send several entries if you want.
MAPS Send maps of the path from your home to ours.
FAUNA Besides 79 year-round humans, our population includes Bears, Cougars, Mule Deer, Owls, Ravens, Mosquitoes, Rattlesnakes and . . .
Send art about the animals where you live, real or fanciful.
MOUNTAINS Many times the glaciers came and shaped our mountains. Send us the mountains in your life or your imagination.
All Media are accepted including the written word. There are no size limits. We can't return your artwork.
I will acknowledge all the art you send in the ENTRIES page of this website. At least the first 20 entries will be pictured on the GALLERY page. After that entries chosen at random will be pictured unless I have time and this website allows me the space to picture everything. I make no promises. Anything that arrives in a box gets a picture along with the box it came in.
All work suitable for the sensibilities of families with young children will be displayed. All other work will be available for viewing in a different venue as a "salon des refuses."
